Sistema SmartTech and IIDF invested 800 thousand dollars in The Mashina car subscription service

For Sistema Smartteh, the venture fund of Sistema JSFC, which invested 300 thousand dollars in The Mashina company, the deal was the second in a row. IIDF acted as a lead investor of the transaction, having invested 500 thousand dollars in the startup.
The startup team will direct the attracted investments to the growth and scaling of the service in the Russian market. The valuation and the size of the acquired shares of investors are not revealed.

The Mashina is a technology-based auto subscription platform. The startup allows you to use a new car with fully included service using the app without a deposit and first installments. The Mashina helps the driver to solve all the issues that arise with the vehicle throughout its use. The monthly payment, which starts from 19 thousand rubles, depending on a car model, includes service, washing, transport tax, evacuation in case of an accident, tire installation and storage of rubber, a concierge driver, roadside assistance and insurance. The company is also testing a mobile refueling service, the car will be refueled by partners and employees of the service without the participation of the driver.

The startup offers a completely seamless option of owning a car, without trips to the dealer, without interaction with banks or insurance companies. All complete sets of cars are fixed and selected taking into account the preferences of the target audience — these are cars of top and near-top complete sets with the most popular options.

The Mashina works directly with car manufacturers, from the moment of choosing a car in the app to the moment of delivering it directly to the user, it usually takes 1-3 business days. The constantly updated catalog includes more than 20 brands of German and Japanese manufacturers, from economy class cars to ultra-premium. By the end of the year, there will be more than 50 models of new cars in the catalog.

Grigory Dudash, the founder and CEO of the company:
“People tend to underestimate their spending on a car and do not take into account the full cost of ownership, which consists of hundreds of factors: the cost of money, amortization with each kilometer, a huge increase in prices for new cars (which breaks the scheme “sold the old one, added a little and bought a new one”), unexpected expenses for technical inspection, replacement of consumables, the increase in the cost of maintenance itself with age and mileage, small expenses for washing and much more. And that's all without taking into account the cost of the owner's own work. The Mashina offers a qualitatively different approach — turning a car from an unconditional liability into a flexible tool of personal mobility for yourself and your loved ones. In fact, this is the perfect cross between buying a car on credit or for cash, carsharing and short-term rental. We have collected all the pros and removed all the cons of different formats, leaving only what a modern city resident really needs saving his budget. The Mashina began issuing the first cars in Moscow in December 2020. In May, the service will be fully launched in St. Petersburg, during this year cars will be available in Sochi, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. The service is already used by several hundred drivers.”

Vadim Kazinets, investment manager of IIDF:
“We see great potential in the team and the product. The global car subscription market has already generated $3.6 billion of revenue in 2019. And by 2027, the market will grow to $12 billion at an annual growth rate of 23%. In Russia, this market is just being formed, as well as the model of consumption of subscription services. However, The Mashina can radically change the habits of Russian drivers and adjust the trends of market development, becoming its leader. The team has a unique expertise and a deep understanding of the specifics of the industry. Subscription car services are growing all over the world and are widely represented in growing markets. European companies operating in this segment - Drover (UK) and Cluna (Germany) are absorbed by strategists with a high market valuation.”

Ksenia Shoygu, the managing partner of the fund Sistema SmartTech:
“In a world where the sharing economy will rule, based on the most effective division of resources and funds, this direction is one of the most interesting. In addition, the user experience is fundamentally important for us. I am sure that most drivers would prefer to be able to get a new car in a few clicks, without thinking about all the difficulties that arise when owning a car in the future. Besides, such services allow customers to be behind the wheel of completely different cars, which can give them new emotions from driving every time.”

The Mashina startup was founded in the summer of 2020. The founders of the company are Grigory Dudash and Evgeny Kladov. Grigory Dudash, co-founder of Skillaz, which was later bought by HeadHunter, brought the Alfred car dealer and the Willz auto subscription service to the market. Evgeny Kladov is the co-founder of the Willz auto subscription service with 15 years of experience in leasing. In September 2020 the company raised 200 thousand dollars from the Digital Disrupt venture fund, founded by former leaders of the Moscow IT Department.
